At St John’s we have ten Reading Ambassadors; two children from Year Two to Year Six. We meet half termly to discuss our library and what is working well and what we would like to develop. This year, we have started to build our book collection further by adding new reads from well-known authors. The Ambassadors complete pupil voice surveys with others in their class and Key Stage to gather information about what the children want in their library and to continue to encourage our love of reading. There is time weaved into each day for the Ambassadors to tidy the library, scan in new books to our library system and ensure the books are still in a good condition. Each class has a dedicated library slot in which the Ambassadors help their peers choose books, teach them about the different genres we stock, advertise the new books we have purchased and use the library scanner to book out their chosen texts. Another responsibility of the role is to plan, organise and run fundraising throughout the year including World Book Day and book stalls. The Reading Ambassadors have had a significant impact on our reading culture and library and will continue to share our St John’s love of reading.
